Responsibilities:
*Assumes responsibility for the team at the middle school level.
*Attends activities and scouting assignments as assigned by
the Head Coach.
*Is responsible for the organization and supervision of his/her
coaching staff in teaching the fundamentals of interscholastic
sports.
*He/she also has these further duties:
- Directs the work and assignment of his/her assistant
coaches with the approval of the Athletic Administrator.
-Safeguards the physical well-being of all participants.
-Controls his/her behavior and that of his/her team at
practices and games, since he/she is the person
most instrumental in crowd control.
-Informs all athletes of the guidelines, conduct code,
policies and procedures of the department and the OHSAA.
-Is financially responsible for all equipment in his/her inventory.
Equipment issued must be accounted for at the end of the season.
-Along with other coaches, is expected to cooperatively
supervise the locker room and team area.
-Coaches are expected to be at their area of practice at all
times and must be present in the locker room until all
athletes have gone from the area. At no time are the
athletes to be in an unsupervised area.
-Is responsible for special courtesies shown to officials
and visiting teams. Officials and visiting teams should
be shown to their dressing rooms.
-Arranges for storage at the conclusion of the season-
all jackets, sweaters, shoes, hats and any other coaching
staff equipment purchased by the athletic fund.
-Attends all Athletic Department meetings unless
excused by the Athletic Administrator.
-Is in attendance at all interscholastic contests involving
his/her team, at home or away, unless there is an
extenuating circumstance.
-Keeps expenditures within the budget.
-Is cognizant of the tremendous influence coaches and
sports have on athletes. The Head Coach must approach
the task of coaching at all times with the thought in mind that
what one says and does, both desirable and undesirable,
has tremendous consequence upon the actions and
reactions of the young adults.
-Secures athletic scholarships for deserving seniors.
*Assists in the planning of special events such as assemblies,
Homecoming, pep rallies, banquets, etc.
*Serves as an advisor to the players on his/her squad to help
them with problems .Is interested and loyal to the school’s program.
*The coach is expected to support the entire program, encouraging
athletes to participate in other sports, and to be an active participant
in striving to improve the athletic program as well as the total
educational program of the schools.
*Performs other coaching-related duties as directed by the Principal.
